Join us for the launch of Sanda Miller and Peter McNeil’s “Fashion Journalism: History, Theory, and Practice”, a ground-breaking history of fashion writing and a fascinating exploration of the impact of ideology and technology on the way we think and conceptualize our sartorial tastes.  Author and art historian Sanda Miller will be joined by Bloomsbury's Frances Arnold, the book editor, in a conversation complemented by musical interventions provided by Lady Rose Cholmondeley, president of The Chopin Society UK.

“Fashion Journalism: History, Theory, and Practice”, recently published by Bloomsbury, is an accessible, comprehensive guide to writing about fashion in any form, whether in style blogging, magazine interviews, news reportage or art reviews. Exploring what sets fashion journalism apart from other forms of journalistic writing, the book features a wide range of global fashion case studies, from Carmel Snow's reporting on Dior's 'New Look' to 1970s responses to Yves Saint Laurent, and Diana Vreeland's role as a fashion editor.

Sanda Miller is currently Research Fellow at Southampton Solent University and Visiting Lecturer since 2011 at Istituto Marangoni, as part of the Fashion Design and Fashion Styling courses and Visiting Lecturer since 2014 at MFI (Milan Fashion Institue) where she teaches 'History of Fashion' on an International M.A. degree in Fashion Communication. She started her writing career in the early 1980's with an article on Constantin Brâncu?i's 'Tirgu Jiu Complex', commissioned by the Burlington Magazine (regarded as the best specialized art history magazine in the UK, for which she continues to write at present) and has since continued to write, both single-authored and co-authored books, as well as chapters in books, whilst pursuing her journalistic career by contributing articles, reviews of books and exhibitions, for the national press and specialized magazines in the UK, Europe and the US. At present, she completed three proposals for three books: 'Beautiful Clothes: A Cultural History', 'Pietro Aretino: A Renaissance Man of Our Times' and 'Images on the Page: A Fashion Iconography', the latter submitted to Bloomsbury for consideration.

Frances Arnold is a publisher with over twenty-five years’ experience. She worked with Macmillan Press and Palgrave Macmillan until 2006 and, between 2012 and 2016, she has been a publisher at Bloomsbury Academic, dealing with both print and digital products. Currently she is Editorial Director at Bloomsbury, with overall responsibility for their imprint, Bloomsbury Visual Arts, and their publishing in visual arts fields (including fashion, photography, design, architecture and art and visual culture).
